Bohemian

Not to be confused with Boho Chic, the Bohemian subculture is a way of living that’s been shaped by centuries of artists/travelers who valued freedom, creativity, and community. The term has roots in 19th-century France, where “bohémiens” described nomadic artists, inspired by Roma people’s itinerant lifestyles. Bohemians built rich social networks around the arts, shared experiences, and mixed cultures and influences along the way.

People living the lifestyle today can be layered with eclectic fashion mostly in earthy and jewel tones. It’s important to honor the people and cultures that inspired that very fashion. Bohemian celebrates experimentation, living fully, and embracing the world with imagination and intentionality.

* This is a real subculture with history, values, and community behind it, so it deserves to be treated as more than just a look. If you’re drawn to the style, here are some aesthetics inspired by Bohemian’s free spirit, creativity, and eclectic charm: Boho Chic, Adventurecore, Bloomcore, Wanderlust, Cottagecore.
